about us
The world is equally complicated and simple. Now this doesn’t mean that being very simple makes anything less complex. Nor does it mean that being super complicated is a license to ignore doing simple things well. But it does mean that the world changes in the in-between, adapts in the partial absence of both, is defined by its willingness to become something unexpected.

Many of us just want to try to make things better, making it easier for sound choices to be a matter of which good things suit them. Sure – greener grass, bluer sky and cleaner water are all important concerns. However getting those things right and keeping them right means accepting the complexity of it all and helping seemingly complex ideas become common sense. It requires growth as a skill not an eventuality.

The true nature of a world, any world, is like true love. It’s a myriad of things. No one facet defines it. It’s a concert of many ideas coalescing into something that evokes a sense of perpetual possibility. Like all chaotic things there’s an independent quality to a moment experiencing that concert from a shared perspective. While sometimes we are those moments, at others we’re just a lens that will never have perfect focus.

But as each facet changes so does the balance that makes the whole thing thrive. So while some things seem to align perfectly for a time, others find themselves at odds. Encouraging what has been inspired to flourish in the in-between of simple truths to be the change that’s required in order to continue on.

So we are left to strive for things both grand and minute. Because what we all must painstakingly learn to accept is that humanity is not the entirety of what defines life or livelihood. We are simply moments of its potential.

Studio Arras is the product of passionate curiosity. Curiosity for living, creating, sharing and engaging change. ‘Cause change is a hard won realization. Since it can be so elusive it’s important to find ways of keeping track of the tone and shape of it. To experience an exchange of ideas that helps opposites learn why they are more likely comrades than competitors.

Arras is another word for tapestry. For most of us that’s the shape of our curiosity. We discover things, learn from them and their distinction leaves a residue that draws us toward new, seemingly original discoveries. When we think back on our lives we’re not searching for one note that perfectly encapsulates our every excursion. We’re experiencing a song that resonates with us as well as from us.

If we’re fortunate enough to have overcome challenges we’ve pursued, that song can become an opera that exudes with the thematic climaxes that drove us. If we’re fortunate enough to have overcome obstacles that were put before us, that sound embraces the rhythm of endurance, perseverance, and quite ironically empathy.

Studio Arras is exhibition that you can take with you and a view into realms of authentic experiences. While that may seem like a grand ambition it’s not really, it’s just the burden of truthfulness. Not meant to be a revelation but the texture and substance of myriad experiences.

Don’t misunderstand, we do this for our own sustainability and profit so that we can pursue more diverse experiences and share new interpretations of them. It’s a big and varied world. So this is a business not a charity. But in this particular instance supporting it is a way to support yourselves. To help yourselves escape the noisiness of things and find a footing that can truly move you forward and be better.

But  it’s also an engagement, an opportunity to take part in many different ideas that resonate together. To contemplate, let change and then engage the world with an updated sense of atmosphere. To breath slightly easier in an environment that can often seem cut off and chastened by itself. To adapt to new ways of being with ideas so that it’s easier to support the values that we all need to sustain us.

Still, for many its art. A way to reach beyond expectation and see through the explanations that won’t change them. Because while we have no excuse for some of our complexities, some of our complexities require no excuse. If we’re fortunate enough to have overcome challenges we’ve pursued, that song can become an opera that exudes with the thematic climaxes that drove us.
the process

The items that we look forward to bringing to market are the product of decades of experience and development. In all honesty some will just be playful. While others are intended to be particularly sage. Since perspective is a fickle thing we have no intention of trying to dictate which are which. But everything starts with a simple idea, it doesn’t necessarily have to be our own. Music, fashion, nature and everything else contribute to an evolution of concepts that we find intriguing.

Deciding whether or not to bring these things to life is the next challenge. Any designer or artist that says that they don’t edit their work for consumption is lying. It doesn’t mean that they’re lying to the public, they may only be lying to themselves. It also doesn’t mean that things are always marginalized for marketability. But it does mean that thoughtful creative processes try to respect a prospective audience and consider the work in the context of conceptual comprehension and relevance.
Because everything communicates something, which is great! However it also implies that everything is on the verge of being miscommunicated or misinterpreted. These are amongst the things that Studio Arras tries to take kinda seriously and one of the many fine lines that we choose to walk.

So part of our approach is to create a progression of things. Starting with Glyph and then continuing on with new challenges. While we have an idea of what that progression will be, projections are never as good as proof.

We’re also just making cool things that we think people will enjoy!
So buy our products. Give them as gifts, use them for yourself, or just add them to the atmosphere of your own home.
